iPad and iPhone/iPod versions of the games are different. It is not possible to play an iPad game on an iPhone / iPod as it is a more demanding application built for a different screen resolution and type.
However, you can play an iPhone/iPod game on an iPad. But in this case a smaller gameplay screen will be available and you will not be able to use certain special features the same game has in its iPad version.
