Pen is first present on the board inside a closed case. It takes three matches made beside it or three power-up activations to destroy it.

After the first hit, the case lid opens, revealing the pen partially covered up by a piece of cloth. The second hit takes away the cloth. And after the third hit, the pen gets counted towards the level goal.
